Your keys are the account
On most public blockchains, control of funds comes from cryptographic keys — not from a username alone. If someone else gets your seed phrase or private key, they can often move assets irreversibly.
Common risks
- Phishing sites that look like real wallets or exchanges
- “Support” DMs asking you to “verify” by pasting a seed phrase
- Malware that watches clipboard addresses
- Wrong network / wrong address when sending assets
No legitimate support agent needs your seed phrase. Ever.
Hygiene checklist
- Store recovery phrases offline; never in screenshots or email.
- Bookmark official URLs; don’t trust random search ads.
- Start with a tiny test transfer before large sends.
- Enable any available device security (OS updates, hardware keys where appropriate).
